In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Wichita, Kansas, the life of 19-year-old Sonja Brown, a Black female, was tragically cut short. On December 1, 2019, Brown was at the 511 Club on North West Street, a venue that was operating after its legal closing time. An argument broke out between two men inside the club, escalating to the point where numerous gunshots were fired. As patrons scrambled for safety, Brown was struck by the gunfire.
