On December 1, 2019, Sonja Brown, a 19-year-old from Wichita, Kansas, was fatally injured in a shooting incident at a nightclub located in the 500 block of West Street. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at the 511 Club, where a disturbance between two male patrons escalated into gunfire. Sonja Brown, who was not the intended target, was struck by the bullets and later succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.
