On a cold January evening in Wichita, Kansas, the life of 16-year-old Mariah Zamora was tragically cut short. On January 17, 2022, Mariah was in a vehicle at the River Walk Apartments in the 2800 block of South Emporia. Shortly after 9:20 p.m., the sound of gunshots shattered the night, followed by the crash of a vehicle.

When police arrived, they found the car had crashed into a garage. Inside were Mariah and 17-year-old Alexis Cervantes-Martinez. Both had suffered gunshot wounds. While ...
