On December 5, 2019, the life of 24-year-old Christopher Young, a White/Caucasian male from Junction City, Kansas, was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. The chain of events began when Junction City police were dispatched to a local residence to investigate a potential kidnapping and a violation of a protection order.
At the scene, it was reported that 27-year-old Zachary Lima, an active-duty soldier from Fort Riley, had forcibly entered the
home. Lima, armed with a gun, then forced Young out of the house against his will. This initiated a search for both men by law enforcement.
The investigation led officers from the Geary County Sheriff's Office to the area near the Milford Lake dam. It was there that they made a grim discovery, finding the bodies of both Christopher Young and Zachary Lima. Investigators concluded that Lima had taken Young hostage before ultimately killing him and then taking his own life. The community was left in shock by the violent incident involving two men known in the area. No other suspects were identified in connection with the case.
