John R. Smelko, a 40-year-old white male from Dayton, OH, tragically died on November 16, 2014. He was shot and killed by Dayton police officer Raymond Dine at Smelko's home on Huffman Avenue. The incident occurred late Sunday night when police responded to a disconnected 911 call. Upon arriving, officers saw a hand with a gun pointed at them through the partially opened door.
