In the small community of Woodston, Kansas, the life of 36-year-old Charity Pearl Brown, a White female, came to a tragic end on April 8, 2020. A mother to six children and a step-daughter, Brown was known for her outspoken and strong personality that left an impression on everyone she met. She had built a life centered around her children, always striving to provide a better future for them.
Originally from Colby, Kansas, she grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, before moving to McCook, Nebraska, during her high school years. There, she earned her GED and trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Med-Aide. Her career in a traveling agency took her to various places in Nebraska, showcasing her dedicated and hardworking nature. Beyond her professional life, she held a deep passion for her Native American heritage.
The circumstances surrounding her death led to a swift investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Rooks County Sheriff's Office. Following the investigation, a Rooks County man, Thomas S. Wojtczuk, 39, of Woodston, was arrested in connection with Brown's death.
The Kansas Attorney General, Derek Schmidt, filed charges against Wojtczuk for second-degree intentional murder and criminal possession of a firearm. The charges were filed with the Rooks County District Court on April 17, 2020. Following the charges, Wojtczuk was held in the Rooks County Jail with a bond set at $1,000,000. The case was taken up by the attorney general's office at the request of the Rooks County Attorney's Office, which assisted with the prosecution.
