In the late summer afternoon of August 23, 2025, the life of 17-year-old Shyanne Marie Crawford was tragically cut short in a residence in northeast Oklahoma City. A White female, Shyanne was a vibrant presence, known for her contagious laugh and a heart full of love for her family. She was a student at Rush Springs High School, where she was an enthusiastic participant in basketball and cheerleading.
On that Saturday, at approximately 2:15 p.m., police responded to a call of a shooting
at a home near Northeast 20th Street and Bath Avenue. Inside, they found Shyanne with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a local hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead. The incident was the 48th homicide in Oklahoma City for the year.
The suspect in the shooting, identified as Shyanne's 17-year-old boyfriend, Zaevion Hill, had fled the scene on foot. However, his freedom was short-lived as police apprehended him a short time later. Following an interview with detectives, Hill was taken into custody and booked into the Oklahoma County Juvenile Detention Center on a complaint of murder. Investigators believe that Shyanne and Hill were together inside the residence when he shot her. While an arrest has been made, the motive for the shooting was not immediately released to the public.
In the wake of her death, Shyanne's family remembered her as a creative soul who found joy in making TikTok videos and taking selfies that radiated her warmth. A GoFundMe was set up to help with funeral expenses, and her obituary described her as a cherished daughter, sister, and aunt who, despite facing struggles, always gave love and light to those around her.
