In the quiet neighborhood of northeast Wichita, the life of 19-year-old Eurland Green, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short on the evening of September 15, 2020. The teenager was discovered inside a vehicle in a residential driveway with a gunshot wound that would prove fatal. The grim discovery was made around 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of North Lehigh, prompting an urgent response from the Wichita Police Department.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, Green was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a family and community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
The initial investigation into the shooting painted a somber picture of the events leading up to Green's death. According to police, Green was known to the residents of the home where he was found, and he had been inside the house shortly before the fatal shot was fired. An argument that began within the residence escalated and spilled outside, culminating in the deadly shooting. The single gunshot wound to Green's upper body was the cause of his untimely demise. Less than 24 hours after the shooting, a swift arrest was made in connection with Eurland Green's death. On the morning of September 16, 2020, officers from the Wichita Police Department apprehended an 18-year-old suspect, identified as Nathaniel Omari-Cole Carroll. The arrest took place in the 1400 block of North Terrace. Following his arrest, Carroll was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, bringing a swift, though not final, development to a case that had just begun to unfold. The investigation continued as the legal process against the suspect commenced.
