In the early hours of September 22, 2020, a tragedy unfolded in Wichita, Kansas, that cut short the life of Jeremy Hutchens, a 42-year-old Black / African American man. Just after 3 a.m., police responded to a call of shots fired near the intersection of Newell and Edwards. Arriving at the scene, they discovered Hutchens inside a white Nissan Xterra, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
