In the early afternoon of a Tuesday in Wichita, Kansas, the life of Nor Carter III, a 34-year-old Black male, was cut short by gunfire. On April 23, 2024, shortly after noon, police responded to a shooting call in the 1400 block of North Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers discovered Carter suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and first responders immediately began life-saving measures before he was transported
to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Norman E. Carter III was pronounced dead at 1:01 p.m. His death was investigated as a homicide by the Wichita Police Department.
In the course of their investigation, detectives identified a person of interest. This led to the arrest of 19-year-old Amunique Cavitt, who was subsequently booked into jail on a requested charge of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Carter. The relationship between Carter and the suspect was not immediately clear as the investigation continued. Police also investigated the role of a black Jeep that was present at the scene of the shooting. Authorities asked for the public's assistance, seeking any information or video surveillance that could aid in the ongoing investigation.
