In the late afternoon of August 31, 2021, the life of 19-year-old Johnnie Roades, a male resident of Kansas City, Kansas, was tragically cut short. Neighbors in the 3100 block of Cleveland Avenue reported hearing the sound of gunshots around 4:30 p.m., a disturbance that prompted a call to the police. Officers responded to the scene but were unable to locate a victim at that time.
It wasn't until approximately two hours later, around 6:20 p.m., that the grim discovery was made.
A pedestrian passing through a grassy area happened upon a young man lying underneath a tree and immediately alerted the authorities. When police arrived for the second time, they found the body of Johnnie Roades. It was determined that he had sustained fatal gunshot wounds, and his death was officially classified as a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting was launched by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department's Major Case Unit. Despite their efforts and appeals to the public for information, no suspects were immediately identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
