Eber Meza-Aguirre, a 29-year-old Hispanic male, was a loving and family-oriented person known for his hard work and ability to make people laugh. He was born in Juarez, Mexico, and in October of 2019 was working for a plumbing company in Kansas City, Kansas. He was a father to two children, a son and a daughter, and was a cherished son, brother, and friend to many. His life, however, was tragically cut short in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 6, 2019, when a night out with friends turned into a scene of unimaginable violence.

That night, an altercation had occurred at the Tequila KC Bar on Central Avenue, leading to the ejection of two men. A few hours later, around 1:30 a.m., those same two individuals, identified as Javier Alatorre and Hugo Villanueva-Morales, returned to the bar armed with handguns. They opened fire into the establishment in what police would later describe as a deliberate and targeted attack, not a random act of violence. The chaotic scene was filled with the terrifying sounds of gunfire and the screams of patrons. When the shooting stopped, four men lay dead, and five others were wounded. Eber Meza-Aguirre was among those who lost their lives in the senseless attack.

The investigation into the mass shooting moved swiftly. Authorities identified Alatorre, 23, and Villanueva-Morales, 29, as the suspects and charged each with four counts of first-degree murder. A manhunt was launched for both men. Javier Alatorre was apprehended on the evening of the shooting. The search for Hugo Villanueva-Morales continued, with police warning the public that he was to be considered armed and dangerous. The tragic event left the community in shock and mourning the loss of four lives, including that of a young father who was remembered for his joyous spirit and dedication to his family.
