On a quiet Monday in rural Saline County, Kansas, the life of 50-year-old Laurie Leanne Likins, a White female, came to a tragic end. On March 21, 2022, a concerned friend's call for a welfare check led deputies to a residence at 554 West Parsons Road, just a few miles south of Salina. The friend had seen a troubling social media post, prompting her to contact law enforcement.
Upon their arrival at approximately 5:50 PM, Saline County Sheriff's deputies discovered a disturbing scene. A broken window and blood inside the home hinted at the violence that had unfolded. When they called out, they were met by 55-year-old Brent Allen Spainhour, who lived at the residence with Likins. An agitated Spainhour emerged from the house and informed the deputies that Likins was dead inside.
Inside the home, authorities found Laurie Likins deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The tragedy was compounded by the discovery of two deceased dogs, who had also been shot. Spainhour was immediately taken into custody at the scene. He was subsequently booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of first-degree murder and cruelty to animals. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation's Crime Scene Response Team was called in to assist with the ongoing investigation. Authorities stated that they were not seeking any other suspects in connection with the case.
