On a Saturday evening in Wichita, Kansas, the life of 42-year-old Alicia Botello was tragically cut short in an act of domestic violence. On August 15, 2020, outside of her home in the 600 block of West 25th Street South, an argument with her ex-husband escalated into a fatal encounter. The man, identified as 44-year-old Victor Rodriguez-Martinez, had come to her residence where a dispute over property began.
The disagreement turned violent when Rodriguez-Martinez produced a handgun and
shot Botello. In the moments that followed this horrific act, he then turned the weapon on himself. Inside the home, Botello’s two sons, aged 16 and 20, were present at the time of the incident. Police responded to the scene around 11 p.m. to find Botello deceased from a gunshot wound.
Rodriguez-Martinez was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. He later succumbed to his wounds and died. Investigators with the Wichita Police Department looked into the couple's history and noted that there had been no recent reports of violence between them. The incident was ultimately classified as a murder-suicide. There were no further arrests as the sole suspect had taken his own life.
