On a late Saturday night in Wichita, Kansas, the life of 16-year-old Quincy Hutton, a Black male, was tragically cut short. The date was May 14, 2022, when officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 500 block of S. Lulu around 11:40 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Quincy with a single gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
Initial investigations by the Wichita Police Department revealed that the shooting occurred as Quincy approached a vehicle that was in front of the apartment building. An unknown individual inside the car fired the fatal shot. Immediately after the incident, the vehicle was seen fleeing the area, heading south. Witnesses and the ensuing police investigation described the suspect's car as a tan or silver Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable. The authorities later released information that the car was last seen in the 1600 block of S. Ida.
In the days that followed, the Wichita Police Department publicly identified Quincy Hutton as the victim and officially ruled his death a homicide. They appealed to the public for any information regarding the suspect vehicle or the individual or individuals involved, offering a cash reward for tips leading to an arrest. Despite these efforts and the ongoing investigation, the case has grown cold. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspect has been publicly identified in connection with Quincy's death. His case is now listed among the unsolved homicides being handled by the Wichita Police Department's Cold Case Unit, a somber reminder of a young life taken too soon and a family still waiting for justice.
