On the evening of April 26, 1997, at approximately 10:30 PM, officers responded to the 4300 block of Benning Road, NE, Washington, DC, to investigate the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered two male subjects suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, a 28-year-old sergeant assigned to the department's Third District, was shot in the feet.
