Do you know who murdered LeRon Perkins? On a frigid December evening in 1995, a trip to the corner store for his grandmother turned into a fatal encounter for LeRon Antywan Perkins. The 14-year-old African-American male was attacked and killed at the intersection of 12th and H Streets, NE, in Washington, D.C., on December 19, 1995. The young Hine Junior High School student was found just a block from his home.
While initial reports were conflicting, with some indicating he was shot, the Metropolitan Police Department and other
accounts state he was fatally stabbed. Despite the typically busy area, authorities reported a lack of witnesses coming forward in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
In the years following his death, LeRon's case has grown cold, and his murder remains unsolved. His photograph, showing a wide, toothy grin, was later included on a 'Wall of Remembrance' in Anacostia, a memorial dedicated to young victims of violence in the city. His mother has expressed the pain of his case remaining unsolved and her hope that the memorial would bring renewed attention to his death.
To this day, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in the stabbing death of LeRon Perkins. The Metropolitan Police Department continues to actively seek information from the public regarding his homicide. A reward of up to $25,000 is offered for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. The investigation remains open as his family continues to wait for justice.
