In the Deanwood neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., the evening of Tuesday, January 17, 2017, was shattered by the sound of six or seven gunshots. When police responded to the 4400 block of Hayes Street NE at approximately 5:58 p.m., they discovered the body of a man lying face down on the ground. The victim, who had been struck multiple times, was identified as 44-year-old Anthony Irving, a resident of the very block where his life was taken. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
