On the evening of Wednesday, July 24, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in Northwest Washington, D.C., leaving a family and community to mourn the loss of 34-year-old Deangelo Jones. A Black male, Jones was in the 600 block of O Street, Northwest, at approximately 9:24 p.m. when the fatal shots were fired. When officers from the Third District arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic situation with two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were
quick to respond, transporting both injured men to a local hospital. Despite the urgent medical attention and all life-saving efforts, Deangelo Jones was pronounced dead. A second victim received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, and a third man, also with non-life-threatening injuries, transported himself to a hospital for care.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is actively investigating the shooting that claimed Jones's life. As of now, the case remains unsolved, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the homicide. The department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
