On August 28, 2024, Investigator Wayne David, a 25-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, D.C., died in the line of duty. David, who was 51 years old, was attempting to recover a firearm from a storm drain when it accidentally discharged, striking him.
