On a cold Friday night in Washington, D.C., the life of a young man was tragically cut short. Twenty-year-old Derrick Rawls was discovered in an alley in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest D.C. on February 4, 2011. The evening was shattered by the sound of gunshots, and when police responded to the scene in the 4500 block of 8th Street, NW, around 9:20 p.m., they found Rawls unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds.
