In the late summer evening of September 5, 2015, a grim discovery was made in the 400 block of Xenia Street in Southeast Washington, D.C. A 21-year-old African-American male named Malik Thomas was found inside a vehicle that had been engulfed in flames. The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:16 p.m., was quickly determined to be a homicide.
