In the winter of 2014, a young man's life was cut tragically short on a Friday afternoon in Southeast Washington, D.C. Twenty-one-year-old Marcus Minor, a Black male from Northeast D.C., was found on January 24th in the 1300 block of Stevens Road, Southeast, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police responded to reports of gunshots in the area at approximately 2:42 p.m. Upon their arrival, emergency medical personnel found no signs of life.
An autopsy later confirmed that Minor's death was a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to a suspect a few weeks later. On February 10, 2014, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 28-year-old Tsihnik Cavallero of Southeast D.C. He was taken into custody based on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant. Initially, Cavallero was charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with Marcus Minor's death.
As the legal process unfolded, the charges against Tsihnik Cavallero were elevated. A grand jury later indicted him on the more severe charge of first-degree murder while armed. Charging documents revealed that both Minor and Cavallero were involved in selling marijuana. Cavallero pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
