Richard Michael "Mike" Ridgell, aged 52, was tragically killed on September 16, 2013, during a mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. Ridgell, a former Maryland State Police trooper, was working as a security guard for a private contractor at the time of the incident. He was remembered as a loving father and a steadfast protector of the 2,000 workers at the Navy Yard.
