In the early morning hours of July 5, 2018, the life of 26-year-old Derek Jeffrey Taylor was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Newcomb Street in Southeast Washington, D.C. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services transported Taylor, along with an adult female and another adult male, to a local hospital for treatment.
While the other two victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, described as grazes, Taylor’s injuries proved to be fatal. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of the young man. In an effort to generate leads and bring those responsible to justice, authorities announced a significant reward. A sum of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the killing of Derek Jeffrey Taylor. As of now, public online sources have not reported any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with this homicide. The case remains an open investigation.
