In the early hours of a Monday morning in the District of Columbia, a burst of violence shattered the predawn quiet of the U Street corridor. One of the men, 22-year-old Phillip Dumbuya of Hyattsville, Maryland, succumbed to his injuries, his life cut tragically short.
The shooting, which occurred around 1:15 a.m.,
also wounded another man who was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The sudden and fatal attack on Dumbuya marked another grim statistic in a year that had seen a significant rise in homicides in the city.
