On August 27, 2018, Phillip Dumbuya, a 22-year-old resident of Hyattsville, Maryland, was fatally shot in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. near the intersection of 9th Street and T Street Northwest, close to the Shaw-Howard University Metro station.
