In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Washington, D.C., the life of Wilbert Brooks, a 27-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. On September 30, 2018, at approximately 12:13 a.m., the sound of gunshots echoed through the 1500 block of Benning Road in Northeast D.C., a sound that would forever alter the lives of many.
