In the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast D.C., the afternoon of Thursday, May 9, 2019, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On a residential street in the 800 block of Xenia Street SE, near the Ferebee Hope Recreation Center, a young man’s life was tragically cut short. Mark Steven Milline Jr., a 28-year-old male from Southeast Washington, was found on a sidewalk by police officers who were responding to reports of possible gunshots around 5:15 p.m.
He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported Milline to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The investigation into his death was quickly launched by the D.C. police, who began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. In the days following the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department released information to the public in an effort to find those responsible for Milline’s death. The police sought the public's help in identifying these suspects, releasing images and a video to the media.
Despite the availability of surveillance footage and a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction, the case of Mark Steven Milline Jr.'s murder remains unsolved. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his death. The investigation continues as his family awaits justice for their loved one, whose life was taken on that spring evening in Southeast D.C.
