In the evening hours of September 12, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Southeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. When officers from the Seventh District arrived at the 700 block of Brandywine Street, SE, just before 9 p.m., they discovered a grim scene. Inside a vehicle, two men were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both victims were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.
For 48-year-old Robert William Wagoner, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, it was too late; he was pronounced dead. The second man in the vehicle was admitted with life-threatening injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
In the weeks that followed, detectives sought the public's help in tracking down those responsible for Wagoner's death. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest and conviction in the case. Police also released surveillance footage that captured images of the suspects.
