In the autumn of 2019, a dispute on a Southeast Washington, D.C. street escalated into a fatal encounter for 30-year-old Jonathan Jones. On the afternoon of Friday, October 11, 2019, Jones was driving on Good Hope Road when he nearly struck a pedestrian. Witnesses reported that Jones stopped his car, got out to check his tires, and an argument ensued with the pedestrian. Jones reportedly told the man that it was an accident.
