Shaquille Simmons, a 24-year-old Black male from Northwest Washington, D.C., was in the 2200 block of Savannah Terrace, Southeast on Saturday, October 12, 2019, when violence erupted. Just before 11:45 p.m., the sound of gunshots pierced the night, prompting calls to the Seventh District police.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene. Two men had been struck by bullets.
One of them was Shaquille Simmons, who was found without a pulse and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical responders. The second victim, another adult male, was also suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered non-life-threatening.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation.
