In the early evening of Saturday, January 9, 2021, a burst of violence shattered the routine inside a business on Florida Avenue, Northeast, in Washington, D.C. Seventeen-year-old Omari Dunn, a male resident of Northwest, D.C., was inside the establishment when he was shot. The incident occurred at approximately 5:28 p.m., a time when the city was transitioning from the fading light of day to the onset of night.
Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Fifth District swiftly
responded to reports of the shooting. Upon their arrival at the unit block of Florida Avenue, they discovered the young victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the scene, but their examination revealed that Omari Dunn showed no signs of life. His body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Homicide detectives immediately began their investigation into the tragic event that cut short a young life.
