In the early morning hours of May 24, 2006, the life of Verone Ray Carter, a 44-year-old African-American male, was tragically cut short on a street in Northeast Washington, D.C. At approximately 3:20 a.m., in the 3600 block of Eastern Avenue, NE, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the neighborhood. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Mr.
Carter suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved, and the person or persons responsible for Mr. Carter's death have never been brought to justice. The Metropolitan Police Department has continued to seek assistance from the public in gathering information regarding the incident. In an effort to generate new leads, a substantial reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this violent act.
Verone Ray Carter was a beloved son, husband, and father. His death left a void in the lives of his family, which includes his wife, Dinah Carter, two daughters, Denetta Banks and Lexus Carter, and his parents, David and Christine Carter. He was also survived by five brothers and four sisters, along with many other relatives and friends who mourned his sudden and violent passing. The investigation into his murder is ongoing.
