Yajaira Sarahy Alvarez Hernandez, a 28-year-old Hispanic woman from Houston, Texas, tragically passed away on May 19, 2021. Her death was the result of a gunshot wound to the head, and her body was discovered in her apartment on May 22, 2021. The investigation revealed that Yajaira had been in a tumultuous relationship with her boyfriend, Isac Marrugo, who was 28 years old.
Neighbors reported hearing a loud argument and a gunshot on May 19, followed by silence.
When Yajaira's body was found, it appeared to have been manipulated into a pose, and there were attempts to clean up possible blood spatter at the scene. Investigators found evidence of domestic violence, including a previous incident where Marrugo had attacked Yajaira with a coffee pot.
Isac Marrugo was arrested on May 20, 2021, in Centerville, Texas, for unlawful possession of a firearm. During his arrest, Marrugo made statements indicating he would flee if released. His mother discovered Yajaira's body while seeking a ride to bail him out. Marrugo was charged with murder and faced trial in the 184th Criminal District Court in Harris County.
The case highlighted the serious issue of domestic violence and the tragic consequences it can have. The legal proceedings against Marrugo were ongoing, with the potential for a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
