Jessica Morales, a 31-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, tragically lost her life on April 29, 2018, in a murder-suicide incident at her apartment in the Sharpstown neighborhood. Jessica, who was Hispanic, was fatally shot by her husband, Wilson Bautista, in the bathroom of their apartment. The couple had been up all night partying, and the incident occurred when Jessica went to take a shower. Bautista followed her into the bathroom, locked the door, and opened fire.
After shooting Jessica, Bautista turned the gun on himself, resulting in his death as well.
The tragic event also injured an 8-year-old girl, Jessica's stepdaughter, who was in the apartment at the time. The bullet fired by Bautista passed through his body and the bathroom door, grazing the young girl's side. She was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released.
The Houston Police Department conducted an investigation into the incident, and it was determined to be a murder-suicide. No arrests were made, as both the perpetrator and the victim were deceased. The children were taken into custody by Child Protective Services and were placed in the care of family members.
The Morales family has since been supported by a GoFundMe fundraiser organized by Jessica's daughter, Ashlin Morales, to help cover the costs of Jessica's memorial and other expenses. The community has come together to offer their condolences and support to the grieving family.
