Juanisha Wanique Fortune, a 32-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on January 16, 2020, in Houston, Texas. She was found with multiple gunshot wounds in an empty lot on Cullen Boulevard and Larkspur Street around 7:55 p.m. Fortune was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The preliminary investigation suggested that Fortune might have been conducting a prostitution transaction at the location when she was shot.
Houston police
released surveillance video of a suspect wanted in connection with Fortune's death. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a white muscle shirt, black pants, red shoes, and red boxers or shorts. He was seen walking southbound on the sidewalk at the location where Fortune was shot. Despite the release of the video and a witness description, no arrests have been made in connection with her murder.
The investigation into Fortune's death remains open, and the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division continues to seek information from the public. The family of Juanisha Fortune has been actively seeking justice, passing out fliers and raising awareness in hopes of finding answers. They have also been raising her six children since her death.
