Italia McGregor, a 24-year-old woman from Bellville, Texas, was tragically shot and killed on New Year's Day, January 1, 2022, in Houston, Texas. She was the first murder victim of Houston in 2022. McGregor was at the Five Nine Bar and Lounge in southwest Houston when a verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight, leading to the shooting. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while her boyfriend and another man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Houston police arrested
28-year-old Gregory Allen in connection with the shooting. Allen was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to police, Allen and another unidentified suspect pulled out guns and started firing during the altercation. The second suspect, described as a Black male between the ages of 26 and 29 with a medium to heavy build and a full beard, remains at large. Witnesses reported that the suspects fled the scene in a white Dodge Charger.
McGregor, a mother of three children, including a two-month-old baby, was known for her hair braiding business. Her family has been mourning her loss and seeking justice for her death. The family set up a GoFundMe page to support her children. The investigation is ongoing, and the Houston Police Department continues to search for the second suspect.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the rise in murders in Houston over the past few years. In 2019, there were 277 murders, which increased to 400 in 2020 and 474 in 2021. The community and McGregor's family are hopeful for a resolution and justice for her death.
