On June 22, 2024, Karen Herrera, aged 43, was fatally shot in Houston, Texas, alongside her mother, Leonor Hernandez, 65, and her brother-in-law, Thomas Kupriakov, 38. The incident occurred at an apartment on Hammerly Boulevard, where Hernandez resided; Herrera and Kupriakov were visiting from out of town.
