Aileen Gardenia Nava, a 23-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, was tragically found dead on August 18, 2015. The incident occurred at a residence in the 1100 block of Blalock, where police responded to a shooting call around 4:20 a.m. Upon arrival, officers were met by Nava's boyfriend, Mario Abigail Ramirez, who claimed that Nava had shot herself. Nava was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, homicide detectives determined that Ramirez was a suspect in the case.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Ramirez, also 23 years old, initially told police that Nava had committed suicide, but further questioning revealed inconsistencies in his story. The investigation led to Ramirez being charged with murder in the 184th State District Court.
In May 2016, Ramirez entered a guilty plea for the murder of Aileen Gardenia Nava and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. The court found that Ramirez had attempted to make Nava's death appear as a suicide. The case highlighted the tragic loss of a young woman and the subsequent legal proceedings that brought her killer to justice.
