Reena Koshy Ajith, a 42-year-old woman of Indian ethnicity, tragically lost her life on October 22, 2014, in Houston, Texas. She was working as a pharmacist at Ben Taub General Hospital when she was shot by her co-worker, George Vallikappill, who was 58 years old. Vallikappill shot Reena in the back as she stood at her workstation in the outpatient pharmacy. The incident was captured on surveillance tape inside the pharmacy.
The motive behind the shooting was reportedly Vallikappill's romantic advances towards Reena, which she had ignored. After shooting Reena, Vallikappill took his own life. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified both individuals involved in the tragic incident.
There were no arrests or suspects beyond the deceased, as the incident was classified as a murder-suicide. No further litigations or investigations were pursued, as the perpetrator was deceased. The outpatient pharmacy at Ben Taub Hospital remained closed until the following Monday to allow for investigation and to provide support to the staff.
