Sousan "Juju" Arab, a 32-year-old woman of Middle Eastern descent, tragically lost her life on July 10, 2020, in Houston, Texas. She was fatally shot in her apartment along with her sister, Nasim Arab, 34, in what was determined to be a domestic violence-related incident. The suspect in this case was identified as Arian Hojat, 34, who was the ex-boyfriend of Nasim Arab.
Hojat was found dead days later in a motel room near San Antonio, Texas, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident occurred after Nasim had recently ended her relationship with Hojat due to his troubling behavior, which included possessiveness, a quick temper, and a fixation with guns. Despite warnings from her sister Sahar, Nasim agreed to meet Hojat to retrieve his belongings, which led to the fatal shooting. The sisters were among more than 2,000 people killed in domestic-violence-related shootings in the U.S. in 2020, a year that saw a significant increase in such incidents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Law enforcement responded to the scene and found the bodies of the two women inside the apartment. Witnesses reported seeing a possible suspect fleeing the scene in a black BMW sedan with New Jersey license plates. The investigation led to the identification of Hojat as the suspect, and his subsequent death was confirmed by the Bexar County Medical Examiner.
The tragic deaths of Sousan and Nasim Arab highlight the ongoing issue of domestic violence and the devastating impact it can have on families. The case also underscores the importance of addressing domestic violence and providing support to those who may be at risk.
