On an April afternoon, the sounds of gunfire echoed through a neighborhood in Southeast Washington, D.C., leaving a young man's life cut short. In the waning daylight of Thursday, April 9, 2020, at approximately 5:11 p.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District were called to the 1200 block of 44th Place, Southeast, for a report of a shooting. There, they found a man unconscious, having sustained a gunshot wound.
