In the early hours of a Monday morning in Washington, D.C., the life of 19-year-old Antonio Lee Burnett, Jr. was tragically cut short. On April 13, 2020, at approximately 1:09 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 3700 block of Hayes Street, Northeast. Upon arrival, they found Burnett unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services rushed the young man to a local hospital in an attempt to save
his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The incident, which unfolded in the Mayfair neighborhood, also left two other adult men with gunshot wounds. Fortunately, their injuries were not considered life-threatening, and they were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the fatal shooting, seeking assistance from the public to piece together the events of that night. Authorities have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Burnett's death. As of now, the case remains under investigation, and police continue to encourage anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. No information regarding any arrests or identified suspects has been publicly released.
