In the waning days of 2023, a beloved family man from Washington, D.C., became another victim of gun violence in the city. On the evening of December 20th, at approximately 8:55 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in the 2900 block of Knox Place in Southeast D.C. Upon arrival, they discovered 39-year-old Dwayne Barbour Sr., a male, suffering from critical gunshot wounds.
He was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
For eleven days, Barbour fought for his life, but his injuries proved too severe. He succumbed to them on the night of December 31, 2023. His death left his friends and family reeling as they entered the new year mourning a profound loss. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch took over the investigation into what was now a homicide case.
The investigation led detectives to three young men, alleged to be members of a crew known as the 'On the Clock Gang.' According to court documents, the suspects planned to rob Barbour of his Rolex watch in the stairwell of an apartment building on Knox Place. During the robbery, a firearm was discharged, leading to Barbour's fatal injuries. Subsequently, authorities made several arrests in connection with the senseless murder.
In August 2024, police arrested 17-year-old Rayon Davis Jr. and 17-year-old Quintin Reed. They were both charged as adults with first-degree murder while armed. Later, a third suspect, 20-year-old Avery Taylor, was also apprehended and indicted on charges including first-degree murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. A judge later found probable cause to proceed with the case against Davis and Reed, ordering them to be detained as the legal process continues.
