In the early evening of a spring day in Washington, D.C., a young man's life was cut short by gunfire. On Monday, May 20, 2024, at approximately 9:12 p.m., 21-year-old Rashaud Johnson, a resident of Northwest D.C., was shot in the 7300 block of Blair Road, Northwest. When officers from the Fourth District arrived at the scene, they found Johnson suffering from gunshot injuries. D.C.
Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded but found no signs of life, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Shortly after, a second victim was discovered nearby in the 800 block of Fern Street, Northwest, also with gunshot wounds. This individual was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the homicide and has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. As of late May 2024, no arrests had been made, and the police continue to seek assistance from the public.
On a summer afternoon two years prior, another man named Rashad Johnson also fell victim to gun violence in the city. On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, around 12:48 p.m., 43-year-old Rashad Johnson and 53-year-old James Johnson were shot and killed in the Unit block of O Street, Northwest. The incident was part of a larger burst of violence that left a total of five men shot. When Third District officers arrived, they found the five victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the men, Rashad and James Johnson, who were cousins and of no fixed address, showed no signs of life and were pronounced dead at the scene. The other three victims were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe the shooting may have been an act of retaliation for another recent incident. Police identified a suspect vehicle, a black 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe with a possible Virginia temporary tag of 956515X, and have offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. No arrests have been publicly announced in connection with this double homicide.
