On a summer evening in Washington, D.C., the life of a young man was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting. Twenty-four-year-old Muntsier Sharfi, a male from Bristow, Virginia, was discovered inside an overturned vehicle on July 8, 2021, in the 3300 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. Authorities determined he had been shot moments earlier about a block away on Erie Street. Sharfi, a former university football player, had been working as a delivery driver for a marijuana dispensary and was reportedly lured to the location for a sale. While still in his car, he was shot in the head. It is believed that after being shot, he stepped on the accelerator, causing his vehicle to crash and overturn.
For a time, the case remained unsolved, with the Metropolitan Police Department offering a significant reward for information that could lead to an arrest. A crucial break in the investigation came from a traffic stop in Prince George's County.
During the stop, police recovered a handgun. Ballistic testing later confirmed that a casing found at the scene of Sharfi's murder was fired from that specific weapon. Investigators were also able to link the suspect to the crime through a TextNow account that was used to communicate with Sharfi to arrange the delivery. The username for the account was traced back to the suspect.
The investigation led to the arrest of Corde Fitzhugh-Clingman, a 22-year-old from Hyattsville, Maryland, on July 10, 2023. He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder while armed, as police also connected him to the 2022 killing of another marijuana delivery driver, 26-year-old Zekariya Elmi. In April 2024, a grand jury indicted Fitzhugh-Clingman on multiple charges, including first-degree murder while armed, attempted armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. He has since pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
