On a warm Saturday evening, September 4, 2021, a mother's frantic search for her daughter came to a tragic end on a street in Northwest Washington, D.C. Thirty-one-year-old Donnetta Dyson, a devoted single mother of two, had returned to the Brightwood Park neighborhood, a place where she had old friends and memories, to visit. That evening, she was caught in a burst of gunfire that erupted in the 600 block of Longfellow Street.
