On a tragic Monday morning, September 16, 2013, the life of 62-year-old Kathleen Gaarde, a dedicated financial analyst, was cut short in a horrific act of violence. Known as Kathy to her friends and family, she was one of twelve innocent victims who lost their lives in a mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. She was a respected employee of the Naval Sea Systems Command, and her sudden death left her loved ones and the nation in shock.
