In the late hours of Valentine's Day, a grim discovery was made inside a Northeast Washington, D.C. apartment, shattering the evening with violence. Forty-year-old Kimberly Stevens, a female resident of the area, was found deceased, the victim of a fatal shooting. She was not alone in this tragedy; two others, 58-year-old Renee Bigelow and 59-year-old Leon Harper, also lost their lives in the same incident.
The Metropolitan Police Department was first alerted to the scene in the 5000
block of Jay Street NE at approximately 7:38 p.m. following a report of an unconscious person. Upon their arrival, officers were met with a somber scene within one of the apartments. Inside, they found Ms. Stevens, Ms. Bigelow, and Mr. Harper, all suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The positioning of the victims, two in the living room and one in a bedroom, hinted at the terrifying final moments of their lives.
In the days that followed, the police publicly identified the three victims, and the investigation into the triple homicide was launched by the department's Homicide Branch. As of yet, no arrests have been made in connection with the killings, and authorities have not released any information regarding a potential suspect or suspects.
