In the winter of 2014, the life of a young woman from Southeast Washington, D.C. was tragically cut short. Nineteen-year-old Tykia Dickerson, a Black female, was found suffering from a gunshot wound on the evening of Thursday, February 27th. The incident occurred around 8:34 p.m. in the 3600 block of Jay Street in Northeast D.C., where officers discovered her on the sidewalk. Emergency services transported her to a local hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
