In the early evening of November 28, 2021, the residential neighborhood of Buena Vista in Southeast Washington, D.C. was disrupted by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 6:29 p.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District were dispatched to the 3000 block of 30th Street, Southeast, following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as 28-year-old Deandre Hunter, a Black male
resident of Southeast D.C. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and quickly transported Hunter to a local hospital. Despite the life-saving efforts of medical personnel, Deandre Hunter succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are actively investigating the case, which is being treated as a homicide. As part of their investigation, authorities have sought assistance from the public, releasing information about a vehicle of interest that was captured on nearby surveillance cameras. A substantial reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Hunter's death.
